STRATIGRAPHIC AND PALEOMAGNETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF QUATERNARY DEPOSITS OF THE NURATAU SECTION

Nuratau section, chronology, paleomagnetism, geomagnetic polarity timescale, stratigraphy

Authors

This paper presents the results of an integrated stratigraphic and paleomagnetic study of the Nuratau section. Based on fieldwork and laboratory geomagnetic measurements, it was established that the lower part of the section consists of alluvial–deluvial deposits of the Eopleistocene, while the upper part consists of proluvial–deluvial deposits of the Pleistocene. Geomagnetic parameters display considerable spatial variability: levels of reversed and normal magnetization are observed within the Quaternary deposits.
