History of the Indian subcontinent, Mirza Ghalib, Muslims of pre-independence India, literature

Authors

This article analyzes the representation of the history of the Indian subcontinent in pre-independence literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with particular emphasis on the works of Mirza Ghalib. The social and spiritual decline that emerged during the period of British colonial rule is expressed in the poet’s oeuvre through historical memory and spiritual resistance. Ghalib’s works call the Muslim community to draw lessons from the past, to spiritual awakening, and to the awareness of cultural and historical identity.
