This article examines the development stages of agriculture in the Uzbek SSR during the 1960s-1980s, the intensification of cotton monoculture policy, and its profound impact on the socio-economic and ecological life of the republic. Based on historical and comparative analysis methodology, the article elucidates the emergence of cotton hegemony, the irrigation crisis, the Aral Sea disaster, health consequences for the population, and initial reforms on the eve of independence. Soviet statistical data, archival documents and international scientific publications were used as research sources
