THE KOBYZ IN THE JIR TRADITION: ITS ROLE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF KARAKALPAK FOLK EPICS

This article examines the historical formation of the musical instrument kobyz, its role in the musical culture of Turkic peoples, particularly
the Karakalpak people, and its significance in the traditions of epic performance. The study analyzes scholarly views related to the origin
of the kobyz, as well as legends and myths found in oral folklore sources and information related to Korkyt Ata. In addition, the artistic
and functional features of the kobyz in the performance of epics and jir in the tradition of epic storytelling are explored.
