The article examines descriptive texts as a typologically specific form of scientific discourse. It substantiates the status of description as a relatively autonomous functional-semantic variety of scientific exposition, characterized by its own communicative, logical-semantic, and structural-syntactic parameters. Based on an integrated functional-semantic, communicative-pragmatic, and structural-syntactic analysis, the study demonstrates that descriptive texts are marked by a stable thematic core, high propositional density combined with weakened predicative dynamics, and specific structural-syntactic features, which makes it possible to interpret description as a mode of representing quasi-static, classificatory knowledge. The findings refine the functional-semantic typology of scientific texts and broaden current understanding of the internal organization of scientific discourse.
