This article focuses on the history of studying the phenomenon of intertextuality in the field of philology. Different views of world and Uzbek linguists were analyzed. Emphasis was placed on the issue of intertextuality and the meaning of intertext terms, their place in the text. The intertextuality competence was proved to be related to history, linguistic culture and association.
