The article is devoted to the study of the specific characteristics of vowel phonemes in Uzbek and English languages. It reveals
the structure of the vowel system in both languages, the number of phonemes in it, the positional appearance of vowels, and the
manifestation of unstressed phenomena. The positional representations of vowel phonemes in the target languages are explained
by convincing evidence. In the article, it is emphasized that vowel phonemes in Uzbek and English languages should be semiequivalent to each other, and it is necessary to take into account the semi-equivalence feature of vowels in the teaching of English
pronunciation
