Downloads
This article analyzes the political and social factors underlying the intellectual and cultural flourishing that took place in al-Andalus during the 8th–10th centuries. It examines the formation of state policies pursued by the Umayyad rulers to support science, education, and culture, as well as their role in transforming Córdoba into one of the major intellectual centers of the Islamic world. The article comparatively analyzes the experience of al-Andalus alongside the centers of the Islamic Golden Age in Baghdad and Central Asia, and identifies historical-typological similarities with the concept of the Third Renaissance in contemporary Uzbekistan.
