A study was carried out of the optical absorption spectra of a cerium-doped scintillation crystal Lu 2 SiO 5 :Ce before and after
irradiation with fast neutrons in the fluence range of 10 15 –5∙10 17 cm −2 in a reactor, as well as during irradiation with gamma
rays of a 60 Co source with a dose of 5∙10 7 Gy. Neutron irradiation showed that induced defects are more intensely generated
at neutron fluences >10 15 cm-2 than when irradiated with γ-quanta with a dose of 5·10 7 Gy. With an increase in neutron
fluence, a decrease in the intensity of the photoexcitation bands at 4.7 and 4.2 eV of Ce 3+ ions is accompanied by an increase
in the absorption coefficient of the bands at 5.2 eV, 4.75 eV, and 4.25 eV.
