This article presents up-to-date information on the diagnosis and treatment of various forms of anorectal malformations in
children. During the initial examination of children with anorectal malformation, the authors recommend the following sequence
of actions: examination of the esophagus to exclude atresia of the esophagus; general X-ray of the abdominal organs in direct or
lateral projections to exclude duodenal atresia, enlarged intestinal atresia. spinal cord and sacrum; echocardiography for the
detection of concomitant heart defects and large vessels (occurs in 30% of newborns with AM); ultrasound of the kidneys and
bladder. Before surgery, it is recommended to determine the sacral index to determine the prognosis of the functional state of the
pelvic organs, since a visual assessment of the state of the sacrum and coccyx (counting the number of vertebrae) in most cases
does not allow a quantitative assessment of the detected changes. At the stage of treatment in the Polyclinic, issues of
postoperative rehabilitation of patients are discussed.
