This article reviews some of the parameters that affect the corrosivity of alkanolamine solvents used for natural gas treatment. Analysis shows that methyldiethanolamine decomposition products increase the corrosive activity of alkanolamine solutions. Purification of working solutions of methyldiethanolamine in ion-exchange resins, thermostable salts, chlorine ions and solutions leads to a significant decrease in electrical conductivity. This shows the urgency of developing new effective methods for cleaning alkanolamine solutions from impurities.
