Proverbs, short and often metaphorical expressions that convey wisdom or universal truths, are a significant part of language and culture. This paper explores the role of proverbs in linguistics, focusing on their linguistic characteristics, cognitive functions, and cultural relevance. Through a literature review and linguistic analysis, we examine how proverbs reflect social norms, cognitive processes, and linguistic structures. Our findings suggest that proverbs play an essential role in understanding language development, cultural identity, and human cognition. Their function not only as tool for transmitting cultural wisdom but also as linguistic tools that encapsulate complex ideas in succinct forms.
