FAMILY CHRONICLE AS A FORM OF HISTORICAL AND MORAL NARRATIVE IN THE NOVEL “SATANCTOE”
This study examines the role of family chronicle in James Fenimore Cooper's novel Satanstowe and the entire Littlepage trilogy, considering it as the last form of historical and moral narrative in American literature of the 19th century. The author argues that Cooper's cycle not only tells the story of one family, but also symbolizes the development of the American nation through the themes of continuity, honesty, law and morality. The features of the narrative, characters and symbols are analyzed, including the role of the village of Satanstowe and the image of the protagonist Cornelius Littlepage as a bearer of family and national memory. Also presented is the unique Cooper's approach to creating a family chronicle, turning personal history into a model of national identity and the development of the country
