This article analyzes Thomas Hardy's novel Tess d’Urbervilles and Iqbol Mirzo’s Bonu, focusing on the conflict between pure moral values and the dominant moral principles in society as portrayed in these works. In both novels, the main characters—Tess and Bonu—struggle to reconcile their pure hearts, good intentions, and desire for an honest life with the unhealthy, hypocritical moral views and unjust social systems of the society. The article delves into the internal worlds of the protagonists, their emotional torments, moral choices, and life struggles. Furthermore, despite the different historical and cultural contexts of the authors, their works present similar themes of human dignity, female honor, social pressure, and moral values.
