MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SOILS AROUND THE KATTAKURGAN RESERVOIR

reservoir, meadow-bog soils, soil profiles, morphological characteristics.

Authors

This article examines the morphological characteristics of soils surrounding the Kattakurgan Reservoir. Soil profiles were
excavated from four directions - north, east, west, and south - and samples were collected for laboratory analysis. The eastern,
western, and southern parts of the reservoir are located at higher elevations relative to the reservoir level; therefore, the groundwater
infiltration from the reservoir had little to no effect in these areas. In contrast, in the northern part, where irrigated agriculture is
practiced, infiltrated water caused a rise in the groundwater table, significantly affecting the morphological features of the soils. At
a distance of 1 km from the reservoir, the groundwater level was observed at a depth of 78 cm, indicating a transition from meadow
to meadow-bog soils. The installation of drainage and collector systems to lower the groundwater level provides scientific
justification for these observations.
