This article analyzes the phenomenon of precedentness in Uzbek and English literary discourse using a comprehensive linguistic approach that integrates semantic, discursive, and intertextual analysis. The study examines the functional characteristics of precedent units precedent names, precedent texts, precedent situations, and precedent expressions in literary texts, as well as their role in meaning formation, discursive function, and connection with cultural memory. The results of the study contribute to identifying national-cultural differences and shared typological characteristics of the phenomenon of precedentness in Uzbek and English literary discourse. The materials of the article have both theoretical and practical significance for research in the fields of comparative linguistics, discourse analysis, and intercultural communication
