Republic of Karakalpakstan is located in the zone of the largest environmental disaster – the disappearance of the Aral Sea. Salt
dust from the dried part of the bottom of the Aral Sea, mineralized water used for irrigation, high groundwater levels lead to
widespread salinization of agricultural lands. Of the 500 thousand hectares of irrigated land in Karakalpakstan, 33.7% are
moderately saline, 9.77% are highly saline. Therefore, with such salinity and lack of fresh irrigation water, it is necessary to
select heat-resistant and salt-resistant crops that give high yields. Such studies are of great theoretical and practical importance.
The article presents long-term data on the use of salt-tolerant and drought-resistant sorghum species (Sorghum), which are not
only fodder, food and industrial crops, but also capable of desalinating the earth.
