This article examines the word formation process in the German language and its role in expanding vocabulary. The study analyzes the main types of word formation, including composition, derivation, and abbreviations. Special attention is given to composition, i.e., compound words, focusing on their semantic and structural characteristics. Determinative, possessive, copulative, and prepositional compounds are illustrated with examples, and their syntactic and semantic aspects are analyzed. The results of the study contribute to a deeper understanding of the structure of compound nouns in German, their constituent components, and their meaning formation features.
