SEMANTIC SHIFTS IN THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF DOSTOEVSKY’S NOVEL "THE IDIOT"
This article analyzes the semantic shifts that occur in the English translations of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel The Idiot. The research explores lexical-semantic deviations, stylistic transformations, and the modification of cultural connotations arising during the translation process. Through a comparative analysis of the original Russian text and several prominent English translations, the study reveals the influence of the translator’s interpretation, cultural competence, and aesthetic choices on semantic content. The article offers insight into how Dostoevsky’s novel is perceived and reinterpreted within the frameworks of translation theory, literary studies, and intercultural communication
