This article analyzes the concept of moral responsibility of the German-American philosopher Hans Jonas in the conditions of technogenic civilization. The philosophical and ethical significance of the category of responsibility in the context of modern technical and technological progress and its role in solving moral problems of today are revealed. The theoretical foundations of Jonas's «principle of responsibility» and his understanding of moral responsibility to future generations are highlighted. The article also discusses the responsibility of scientists and scientific activities. The author shows the significance of Jonas's concepts of «heuristics of fear» and «natural holism» for modern fields of bioethics and environmental ethics.
