This article analyzes the morphological, semantic, and syntactic features of thirteen verbs presented in Ibn Malik’s Alfiyya. The study explores how these verbs function both independently and as auxiliaries, highlighting their role within sentence structures and their functional distinctions in expressing tense and aspect. The verbs كان, صار, ظل, أصبح, أضحى, أمسى, بات, ليس, زال, برح, فتئ, انفك,
دام are thoroughly examined in terms of their types and usage contexts. The author considers these verbs not merely as temporal indicators but as grammatical nuclei that transform nominal sentences into verbal constructions. Furthermore, the article pays attention to the interpretative differences between the Basra and Kufa grammatical schools, shedding light on the theoretical significance of “kāna and its sisters” within the Arabic grammatical system. As a result, Alfiyya is interpreted as a methodological source that reflects the deep grammatical foundations of Arabic syntax.
