This article analyzes one of the key areas of modern linguistics – the cognitive and pragmatic aspects of discourse and political metaphor. Drawing on the conceptual metaphor theory developed by G.Lakoff and M.Johnson, the author explores the role of metaphor in human cognition and social consciousness. Based on E. Lassan’s oppositional discourse model, the study examines the structure of texts along with their cognitive and rhetorical mechanisms. The works of Russian scholars such as A.N.Baranov, N.D.Arutyunova, and Yu.N.Karaulov on political discourse and metaphor are also reviewed. The article interprets metaphors as tools for shaping political thought, exerting manipulative influence, and modeling ideological consciousness
