ASSESSMENT OF INTEGRAL AMOUNT OF WATER AT THE MAIDANAK OBSERVATORY BASED ON ERA5 DATA
Downloads
This study investigates the annual and seasonal variations of Integrated Water Vapor (IWV) over the Maidanak Astronomical Observatory during 2016–2018 using ERA5 reanalysis data. ERA5 TCWV (Total Column Water Vapor) values were adjusted for altitude by applying the GPWV-H (Height-adjusted Ground Precipitable Water Vapor) methodology. In the calculations, a constant scale height (H) parameter was assumed. The obtained IWV values were compared with GNSS meteorological observations, showing a high degree of agreement. The analysis revealed that discrepancies were relatively larger in summer, which can be explained by the seasonal variability of the H parameter. The results indicate that the proposed approach can be an effective tool not only for Maidanak, but also for complex terrains without GNSS stations, to estimate IWV based on ERA5 data.
