The article examines the trade relations between the Bukhara Emirate and Afghanistan in the second half of the 19th and the
early 20th centuries, as well as the leading role of Afghanistan in the emirate’s trade relations with Eastern countries. It also
analyzes the gradual subordination of Bukhara–Afghanistan trade relations to the economic interests of the Russian Empire
following the establishment of its dominance over the emirate, the formation of Russian customs offices along the Bukhara–
Afghan border by 1895, and their impact on trade and commercial activities.
