This article analyzes the role of paraverbal and extralinguistic means in the process of verbal communication and their communicative-pragmatic capabilities. The role of prosodic means such as speech rate, timbre, volume, tone of voice, stress, emphasis, intonation, rhythm and pause in the formation of speech content is highlighted from a scientific point of view. The importance of cough, sigh, laugh, cry, sigh and other extralinguistic sounds in expressing a person's emotional state, communicative intention and social relations is also shown.
