The article presents ways to explain the refractive index of the medium to the frequency of light waves incident on it to future phyusics teachers in higher education. In addition, theoretical calculations are presented by modeling the Zelmeyer formula in Maple software. By explaining Zelmeyer’s theory in optics classes in higher education the main task is to use infotmation technology and thereby develop their professional competence.
