The history of the use of surfactants in analytical chemistry has more than 40 years. Achievements associated with the use of
surfactants in analysis are due to their modifying effect on organic reagents. The study of the fundamentals of the action of
surfactants in analytical systems is impossible without discussing the features of the interaction of surfactants with water. In this
regard, let us briefly consider the structure of liquid water and the specifics of surfactant hydration in aqueous solutions. The type
of interaction of ionic and nonionic surfactants with water is different, which gives their solutions different properties. The
presence of an ionic group dissociating in an aqueous solution, associated with a hydrocarbon radical, and relatively free
counterions capable of destroying the structure of water, along with methylene groups structuring water in the hydrophobic part
of one molecule, leads to the antagonistic effect of individual parts of one molecule on the state of the solvent in dilute solutions
of ionic surfactants.
