THE “COLLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL TREATIES OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN” AS A HISTORICAL SOURCE: A METHODOLOGY FOR STUDYING UZBEKISTAN–AFGHANISTAN RELATIONS (1991–2024)

The article examines the official edition Collection of International Treaties of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a historical source. Seventy-four out of the eighty-four issues published between 2004 and 2024 were analysed. The author identifies and substantiates the key feature of the edition, namely that documents are published according to the date of entry into force rather than the date of signature. It is demonstrated that disregarding this principle leads to a systematic error in searching for treaties. The article separately describes the method of restoring the text of issues typeset in an obsolete font encoding and of issues preserved only as images. The continuous review established that over twenty years the edition published only three bilateral Uzbek-Afghan documents and two documents concluded with third states containing direct references to Afghanistan.
