The article examines the crisis hero as one of the characteristic personality models in Russian and Uzbek novellas at the turn of the 20th-21st centuries. Based on works by S.Babayan, F.Nagim, A.Dmitriev, Yu.Goryukhin, M.Paley and N.Eshonkul, the causes of the individual’s inner crisis, the peculiarities of its literary representation and national specificity are analyzed. It is established that in Russian novellas the hero’s crisis is mainly associated with social and professional marginalization, alienation and the loss of former identity, whereas in Uzbek novellas it acquires a pronounced moral, philosophical and spiritual dimension
