The article analyzes the main causes of conflict situations in young families and examines evidence-based ways of preventing
them. Mismatched communication styles, uncertainty in financial matters, the distribution of family roles and outside interference
are studied as the main sources of conflict, and factors specific to the young families of military servicemen are considered
separately. Drawing on foreign and national psychological research, the article substantiates methods of developing a culture of
communication -active listening, the “I-message”, taking a pause during emotional arousal and a regular family conversation -and
offers practical recommendations for young couples, family counselling specialists and military unit psychologists.
