The article analyzes the essence, methods of formation, and usage of occasionalisms in modern linguistics. Occasionalisms are considered as a means of expressing the author's individual creative approach, emotional evaluation, and enhancing textual expressiveness. Particular attention is paid to the formation and functional characteristics of occasional phraseological units in English and French. Based on research in pragmatics and pragmalinguistics, the dependence of occasionalisms on speech context and their role in texts is highlighted. The study emphasizes the need for comparative research on occasional phraseological units in future investigations.
