This article provides a lexical-semantic and cultural-connotative analysis of anthroponyms used in Gʻafur Gʻulom’s novella Shum Bola (“The Naughty Boy”). Personal names – including given names, nicknames, titles, and pseudonyms – are examined through linguistic and cultural lenses, highlighting their communicative, semantic, and ideological functions within the literary context. The study reveals the etymology of the names and their correlation with character traits, social status, and the culturalhistorical setting of early 20th-century Uzbek society. Special emphasis is placed on the stylistic role of anthroponyms in character construction and their reflection of the national mentality. The article offers both theoretical and practical insights for the onomastic analysis of literary works
