THE EVOLUTION OF THE SHORT STORY IN THE SYSTEM OF SMALL PROSE: FROM THE CLASSICAL MODEL TO POSTMODERN VARIABILITY

The article examines the evolution of genre models of the short story in Russian literature of the 19th–21st centuries. Special attention is paid to the transformation of the classical structure of the short story under the influence of postmodern tendencies, such as open composition, fragmentariness, and intertextuality. The study analyzes the key artistic strategies of contemporary short prose, which combines traditional forms with experimental practices. It is shown that the short story retains its stability as a genre, adapting to the changing socio-cultural context. The findings clarify the role of the short story as a central genre of contemporary Russian literature.
