SEMANTIC AND STYLISTIC FUNCTION OF OXYMORON UNITS
This article is devoted to the analysis of the semantic and stylistic functions of oxymoron, one of the important stylistic devices in literary speech. The study examines the main functions of oxymoron, such as creating semantic contrast, enhancing imagery, increasing emotionality, expressing philosophical meaning, and ensuring stylistic diversity, using examples from English and Uzbek literature. The foundation of the «deceived expectation» effect of oxymoron, the role of the epithet in enhancing imagery, the emotional impact of contradictory combinations, and the ability of paradox to create intellectual uncertainty serve as the theoretical basis for the analysis. The article confirms the significance of oxymoron in literary analysis and shows its relevance for stylistic research.
