In this article, the means of manipulative speech employed in Guy de Maupassant’s Bel-Ami are analyzed from a linguocultural
perspective. The study identifies strategies of covert influence, speech acts, evaluative units, as well as mechanisms for creating
contextual meaning in the characters’ speech. Manipulative discourse in the work is examined in close connection with social
relations, psychological pressure, and the culture of communication. The findings contribute to revealing the pragmatic
characteristics of manipulation in literary texts.
