This article offers a systematic examination of the theoretical bases of foreign language teaching methods and their significance
within the educational process. The study explores the historical development of language teaching methodology - specifically the
Grammar-Translation, Audio-Lingual and Direct Methods, as well as the Communicative Approach - through a comparative-
historical framework. The findings indicate that foreign language teaching methods have evolved in response to distinct linguistic,
psychological and pedagogical theories and that the effectiveness of language learning is closely associated with the appropriate
selection of methods and their theoretical grounding.
