This study examined the effect of the flavonoid dihydroquercetin in vitro on the contractile activity of rat cardiac papillary muscle.
Contractile activity of papillary muscle preparations in vitro was recorded by mechanography using the SI - BAM21 - LC device
(World Precision Instruments Inc.; USA). Dihydroquercetin produced a positive inotropic effect at concentrations from 10 µM to
60 µM. To clarify the mechanism of this positive inotropic action, the Ca 2+ channel blocker nifedipine (IC 50 = 0.01 µM) and the
Na+ channel blocker lidocaine (IC 50 = 15 µM) were used. It was determined that the positive inotropic effect of dihydroquercetin
on papillary muscle contractions is mainly mediated by activation of Na + channels.
