This article explores the theoretical foundations of the study of colloquial and subcolloquial phraseological units in modern linguistics.
The research focuses on the functional role of phraseologisms in spoken discourse, their expressive and evaluative potential, processes of
stylistic stratification, as well as the relationship between substandard units and the norms of the literary language. Particular attention is
paid to the formation of colloquial and subcolloquial phraseological units within social and communicative contexts, their pragmatic load,
and their role in enhancing expressive impact in speech. The paper also systematizes key classification criteria and methodological

substantiate the necessity of a comprehensive and systematic investigation of the substandard phraseological layer of language
