This article analyzes the importance of glaciers and snow cover in the Earth's climate system and human life, as well as their
rapid reduction under the influence of climate change. The study highlights the changes occurring in the level of the World
Ocean and in global climatic processes as a result of these transformations. In addition, the possibilities of using satellite data for
monitoring glaciers and snow cover are examined. In particular, using Landsat satellite imagery and GIS technologies, NDSI
(Normalized Difference Snow Index) maps for the Samarkand region were developed for the period 2000–2025.
