Obstetrics is a branch of clinical medicine. It studies the physiological and pathological processes that occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy, childbirth and after childbirth (in the “chilla” period). In ancient medical books (for example, Ayurveda), some methods are given to help with childbirth. Abu Ali Ibn Sina in his work "Medical Laws" on women’s hygiene and diseases, including a separate chapter for obstetrics. Scientific obstetrics has been developing since the 17th and 18th centuries in connection with advances in anatomy, embryology, physiology and clinical medicine. In the Republic of Uzbekistan, midwifery has risen to the level of a social issue, and there are many institutions that protect mothers and children.
