This article reveals that in the process of teaching and learning a foreign language, the teacher is not merely a provider of knowledge but also acts as a bridge between the learners and the target language — that is, as a mediator. Rather than directly teaching the language, the teacher creates conditions that allow learners to acquire the language actively and independently, while guiding and supporting them throughout the process. The article also provides information about the principles that describe the behavior of an expert teacher, which should be taken into account to achieve the objectives set in language teaching
