This article analyzes terminology and methodology in Eastern linguistics from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
Terminology is treated as a system of specialized units within a field, while methodology is understood as the theoretical foundation
of scientific inquiry. Drawing on Indian, Chinese, Arabic, and Turkic traditions, the article examines how Eastern linguistic
scholarship described, classified, and named language phenomena. Special attention is paid to Panini’s grammar, the Arabic
grammatical and lexicographical tradition, Mahmud Kashgari’s comparative lexicographic practice, and modern corpus-based and
digital annotation methods. The article argues for the importance of term standardization, multilingual glossaries, corpus
verification, and digital work with historical sources in contemporary Oriental linguistics.
