THE 1929 ALPHABET REFORM IN UZBEKISTAN: PURPOSE, RESULTS, AND CONSEQUENCES
This article provides a scholarly analysis of the alphabet reform implemented in Uzbekistan in 1929. It examines the historical context of the reform, its primary objectives, and the process of its implementation. The study highlights both the positive outcomes of the transition to the Latin script – such as increased literacy rates and the development of the education system – as well as its negative consequences, including a rupture with cultural heritage and the intensification of ideological pressure. The article evaluates the alphabet reform as a significant stage in the socio-cultural development of Uzbek society.
