This article is devoted to the laws of microstructural formation of a dictionary entry in lexicography, which is one of the most relevant and practical fields of modern linguistics. The study substantiates that a dictionary is not only a collection of linguistic units but also a complex semiotic and visual system. The author systematically analyzes the role and functional tasks of the main tools that determine the external and internal architecture of a dictionary entry: writing format, punctuation marks, and special lexicographical markers.
