This article examines the linguistic nature of defamation and discredit (discreditation) within the framework of forensic linguistic expertise, which is one of the most pressing fields in modern linguistics. The paper analyzes the role of linguistic criteria in evaluating offenses related to the protection of an individual's honor, dignity, and business reputation. The research highlights the semantic and pragmatic boundaries between insult and discreditation, international legal criteria (such as the “Sullivan Test”), and the principles of distinguishing between factual statements and opinions during the expertise process. The author’s analyzes discreditation as a distinct speech strategy and substantiates its specific characteristics as an object of forensic linguistic inquiry.
