In the leading scientific centers of the world, it has been noted that dysfunction of mitochondria in various tissues leads to the
development of most pathological processes, including ischemia. Mitochondria are energy-synthesizing organelles in living
organisms, including mammalian cells, and play an important role in physiological and pathological conditions. The role of
mitochondrial K+ channels, including the ATP-dependent potassium channel, in cell physiology deserves special recognition.
The ATP-dependent potassium channel plays an important role in mitochondrial volume control and maintenance of
mitochondrial integrity. Activation of the mitochondrial ATP-dependent channel induces "protective mechanisms", and
inhibition can lead to cell death.
