Today, particular attention worldwide is paid to modern research that creates a scientific and theoretical basis for the sustainable development of the tourism sector in order to maximize its positive socio-economic impacts and mitigate negative consequences. In particular, investigating regional tourism potential—specifically the historical-ethnographic direction—as a key factor in the sustainable development of rural areas and studying the criteria that ensure its competitiveness have become urgent subjects of modern science. Therefore, analyzing historical-ethnographic tourism in the villages of the Jizzakh oasis as a tool for stimulating economic growth, increasing population income, and enhancing living standards, while relying on sustainability principles and widely implementing digital technologies, is gaining vital importance. This article is aimed at researching the scientific and theoretical foundations of sustainability in the field of historical-ethnographic tourism, the concept of rural tourism, and the digitalization of the sector on the example of the Jizzakh oasis villages.
