EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL INTERTEXTUALITY IN J. K. ROWLING’S FICTIONAL WORLD AS A FORM OF AUTHORIAL INNOVATION
This study examines external and internal intertextuality in J. K. Rowling’s fictional world as forms of authorial innovation.
Drawing on the Harry Potter novel series, it identifies the principal ways in which the writer engages with mythological, folkloric,
biblical, Gothic, detective-fiction, and school-story traditions. Particular attention is paid to how external cultural sources and
intratextual connections contribute to the construction of a coherent fantasy universe and to the development of its system of
images, motifs, and authorial naming practices. The study establishes that intertextuality in J. K. Rowling’s works performs not
merely a decorative but a structural and semantic function, ensuring the multilayered nature of the text, the semantic coherence of
the novel cycle, and the expression of the writer’s individual style.
