MAPPING EXCESS MOISTURE ZONES IN THE AKHANGARAN DISTRICT USING LANDSAT AND NDWI
Downloads
This study analyzes seasonal changes in surface moisture within the Akhangaran District of Tashkent Region using Landsat 8–9
multispectral imagery and the NDWI index. Satellite images acquired in March and August 2024 were selected to represent the
wet spring period and the relatively dry summer period. The NDWI index was calculated using the green and near-infrared spectral
bands, allowing the identification of moist areas, surface water bodies, and relatively dry zones. A comparison of the March and
August NDWI maps showed higher surface moisture during the spring season and a pronounced drying trend during the summer
season. The results demonstrate that Landsat data and the NDWI index can be used for preliminary cartographic assessment of
potential flooding and excess moisture zones.
