This article examines the distinctive features involved in developing students’ reading skills in foreign language teaching. It highlights the shift from traditional decoding practices to more dynamic, comprehension-focused approaches that integrate critical thinking, vocabulary expansion, and cultural understanding. Emphasizing interactive and learner-centered methods, the article discusses strategies such as extensive reading, skimming and scanning techniques, and task-based activities that enhance both linguistic competence and reading autonomy. Special attention is given to the role of authentic texts, digital resources, and differentiated instruction in adapting to learners’ varying proficiencies.
